Journey of a Thousand Miles Starts From Beneath One's Feet
The intense Pole to Pole
2000 "Boot Camp" is over and the journey has begun. Young people from five continents have become Team 2000, bringing the challenge and example of change and giving as they make their way from North to South Pole. As they do, we will be using this page and the rest of the site to keep you in touch and, where possible, provide ways for you to interact with the team and their travels.
The Pole to Pole expedition is not limited to the themes of physical endurance and teamwork. Inherent in the team's journey is a desire to promote a heightened awareness of our planet's fragile environment, along with solutions for a sustainable and positive future.
At various points along their route, the Pole to Pole 2000 team will give Challenge to Change presentations to further their message about global environmental and humanitarian issues. They will share their dramatic stories about reaching for their own potential and share some skills needed to handle the extremes. Their message is simple yet profound: that each and every action taken to improve the environment and human relations has significance. No pledge is too small and no global problem is too big to be remedied.
Through these important Challenge to Change presentations, the public will be invited to make an action pledge: environmental, humanitarian or both. The team members will demonstrate, with interactive activities, that we all possess the skills to make a positive impact on our worlds. Through their journey, they have met the Challenge to Change in numerous ways and can inspire others to take action in their own ways.
