AS THE SUN BEGINS TO ILLUMINATE the next thousand years, and casts its inspirational light across the globe, each of us will have the unique opportunity to embrace this powerful symbolism, to rethink earth's existence and to resolve to make the world the best it can be.

Starting at the North Pole, a group of some the best and brightest young adults from around the world have embarked on an unprecedented expedition of high adventure and international goodwill. The expedition is the most arduous and ambitious trek ever undertaken by young adults, who will personally carry out humanitarian and environmental projects the world over, inspiring millions to take positive actions for a better world.

Pole to Pole 2000: The Millennium Challenge was conceived of by world- renowned expedition leader Martyn Williams, the first man in history to lead successful treks to the three great extremes: the North Pole, the South Pole and Mount Everest.

The Opportunity of a Lifetime: Because of the power of information technology today, billions of people will have the opportunity to participate in the Pole to Pole journey via television news and documentaries, Internet access, print, and newspaper coverage over the course of the expedition or by meeting and joining the teams at predetermined event sites. Such an undertaking is unprecedented and destined to become a part of history.

Team 2000
The team The Pole to Pole 2000 team consists of young adults from countries across the globe: Canada, South Africa, South Korea, Japan, France, the United States and Argentina.

Millennium Challenges and Activities
- Action Inspiring Action
During their nine-month journey, Team 2000 will initiate and support ongoing environmental and humanitarian projects throughout the world. Team 2000 members will invite their audiences to pledge a shared vision of world harmony in action, by writing down their personal vows and entrusting them to the expedition. They will take these symbols of personal commitment, known as Millennium Challenges, and bring them to their final destination, the South Pole, to show the world that individuals can really make a difference.

From Marco Polo's crossing of Asia to Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon, journeys of great difficulty and endurance have inspired entire societies to courage and action. No expedition of this magnitude has ever been undertaken. The time has come to prove it can be done.
